A Special Sunday for the GALAXY Team at Sochi 2014

Samsung-Galax-TeamThe Samsung Galaxy Team’s adventure at the Winter Olympics started in the best possible way. The team is already part of history and announces more emotions in both weeks to the end of the event.

On the wake of the experience at the London 2012 Olympics, last fall Samsung had set up the Samsung GALAXY Team, a team of 5 Italian athletes, in order to arouse the interest of people in winter Olympic sports.

Yesterday, on the second day of the Sochi Olympics, the Galaxy team got off to the right start: the Italian team leader Armin Zöggeler won the bronze medal in luge, his sixth victory in as many editions of the Winter Olympics (2 gold medals at Salt Lake 2002 and Turin 2006, one silver medal at Nagano 1998, and three bronze medals at Lillehammer 1994, Vancouver, 2010, and Sochi 2014). Skier Christof Innerhofer won, in turn, the silver medal in the men’s alpine skiing race. Both medals have an historical value: while no one, in the history of the Winter Olympics, ever equalled Zöggeler’s achievement, Innerhofer brought Italy back to the podium in men’s high-speed skiing after 38 years, conquering the first silver medal for the country at this sport.

“I am overjoyed, the way I feel is unique and impossible to describe,” said Innerhofer at the party organized yesterday at Casa Italia, with Samsung in attendance as a partner of CONI, the Italian Olympic Committee.

“After six editions and as many medals, the magic of the Olympics is the same to me, each time is like the first,” said Zöggeler.

Both athletes will meet their fans and the media tomorrow at the Samsung Galaxy Studio, within the Olympic Park, to celebrate these important achievements.

In addition to Zöggeler e Innerhofer, who will compete again during the week to try to win some medals also in the luge Team Event on Thursday and in Combined alpine skiing and SuperG on Friday and Sunday, the Samsung GALAXY Team can also rely on short-track speed skater Arianna Fontana, on young snowboarder Omar Visintin, and on Paralympic skier Melania Corradini.

The walk of the Samsung Galaxy Team was resumed today with Arianna Fontana, who easily passed the first qualification round in the 500 m race.

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is attending the Sochi 2014 Olympics as the Worldwide Olympic Partner for the Wireless Communications Equipment category, and its Samsung GALAXY Note 3 is the official Olympic Smartphone of Sochi 2014.
