All three Olympic Villages opened for the first time

All three Olympic Villages opened for the first time. The Olympic Village in the Coastal Cluster will be home to 2,000 athletes and delegates during the Games. The Mountain Olympic Village, the largest of the three villages, will accommodate nearly 3,000 people whilst the Endurance Village will be home to more than 1,000 people.

A concert by Russian group Siberiahills, led by Natalia Simakova took place to mark the official opening of the Olympic Village in the Coastal Cluster. Mayors and vice-mayors of all Olympic Villages Elena Isinbaeva, Svetlana Zhurova, Aleksey Nemov, Maksim Chudov and President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee Dmitry Chernyshenko welcomed athletes and guests.

The philosophy and design of each village is unique and is different in style and colour. Each village has been designed to look completely different and will be decorated with souvenirs and crafts, icons, and architectural art objects that will become part of the rich legacy of the Games in Sochi. The  streets in the Olympic villages will bear the names of famous Olympic and Paralympic champions of Russia and the USSR.
